Is Buying a House Long Real Estate and Short Dollars

I saw this idea on Twitter (X) and though it was a unique way to approach purchasing a home.

Is Buying a House Long Real Estate and Short Dollars

Most people buy a home because they believe their home will continue to appreciate in value, or at the very least keep up with inflation.

Therefore, buying a home is essentially trading current dollars to purchase an asset that will appreciate over the next 30-yrs because we believe the value of dollars will decrease in 30-years.

By this same thinking, we would then believe future mortgage payments will be paid back with “cheaper” dollars as inflation rises over the next 30-years.

The best part about this investment, you get to live in it!

I thought this was a pretty interesting approach when I read it. What do you think?
